Health Insurance Companies in California

California was the first state to come up with a health insurance marketplace as mandated under the Affordable Care Act. It works with 11 different health insurance companies to offer Obamacare health plans for 2017 and 2018. All 11 carriers provide individual and family insurance. Six of the carriers provide group health insurance for small businesses in California.

 

Covered California will continue the partnership with these 11 different health insurance companies to offer Obama Care California health plans for 2017 and 2018. These 11 Covered California carriers are available in the individual and family marketplace. Six of the carriers are offered for group health insurance for California small businesses. 

 

The state of California has been sectioned into 19 different pricing regions. Health insurance company plan offerings and prices vary by region. Three or more health insurance companies will be available to at least 82 percent of all Californians, and there will be at least 2 carrier options for everyone.

Anthem Blue Cross

Founded in the mid-1940s in Indiana, Anthem is a nationwide health plan that believes health connects people to each other. Blue Shield of California

Blue Shield, founded in 1939 and based out of San Francisco, is a not-for-profit health plan dedicated to providing Californians access to high-quality health care. The organization serves more than 3.4 million members and has almost 65,000 physicians across the state. Blue Shield offers HMO and PPO plans as well as Health Savings Account plan options. Chinese Community Health Plan

Chinese Community Health Plan has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1986. They have a strong commitment to providing high quality, affordable CA health care services to all of their members. CCHP coverage is available to anyone in San Francisco and/or northern San Mateo counties. They offer HMO plans.

 

Health Net

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente’s roots go all the way back to the Great Depression. Today KP is comprised of the nonprofit and public-benefit corporations: Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; along with the for-profit professional organizations, the Permanente Medical Groups. One of the largest not-for-profit health plans in the nation, Kaiser serves more than 10 million members and is based out of Oakland, California. Molina Healthcare

Founded in 1980 and based out of Long Beach, California, Molina Healthcare’s mission is to provide quality health services to financially vulnerable families and individuals covered by government programs. As a regional health plan, Western Health Advantage is happy to be a local organization.
